There are two settings in Meta’s advertising preferences that can prevent your campaigns from being published on Facebook and Instagram. The following steps help you quickly check and adjust both settings.
To ensure your campaigns are published reliably, the settings for "less personalized ads" and the ad-free Meta subscription must be configured correctly.
"Less personalized ads"
If this option is enabled, Meta uses less personal data to deliver ads (for example, less data about interests and usage). This can lead to restrictions, especially when publishing or delivering campaigns. In some cases, certain placements or boosting may also be affected.
For campaigns, “Personalized ads” should be selected.
Ad-free Meta subscription
Meta offers an ad-free experience through a subscription. If this subscription is active, ads cannot be run through the respective profile.
For campaigns, "Use for free with ads" must be selected.
Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide on how to set these options correctly in your account overview on Facebook or Instagram.
1) Access the Accounts Center
Open the Accounts Center via your personal profile (not via the Facebook Page).
Important: Your profile must have access to the Page for the change to take effect.
Choose the option that applies to you:
Instagram (app):
Open your profile
Open the menu (☰) and go to Accounts Center
Facebook (desktop):
Click your profile picture in the top right
Go to Settings & privacy
Go to Settings
On the left, open Accounts Center
Note: Labels may vary slightly depending on the app or browser version.
2) Check the Accounts Center: Are Facebook and Instagram linked?
To set the advertising preferences correctly on Facebook and Instagram, first check whether your two accounts are linked.
Do you see both your Facebook account and your Instagram account in the Accounts Center?
Yes: The accounts are linked ✅
No: Please check the settings separately on Facebook and Instagram. (The restriction may apply differently depending on the account.) ❌
What’s next?
If "Yes": It is enough to follow one of the two guides (Facebook or Instagram).
If "No": Please follow both guides.
If you are unsure, it is best to check both.
