How to Create Your Social Media Pages for Facebook and Instagram

In this article, we will show you how to create a Business Portfolio, a Facebook page, and an Instagram profile for your company.

ℹ️ This article describes the optimal approach to creating your company’s social media pages. We recommend first creating a Business Portfolio, then setting up the Facebook page. Finally, you can create an Instagram profile.

Requirements

If you meet the following requirements, we can start creating your company’s social media pages.

✅ A private Facebook account including login credentials is available
✅ You are using a laptop or desktop computer (smartphones and tablets are unfortunately not supported)

⚠️ If you do not yet have your own (private) Facebook account, go to facebook.com and create an account by clicking “Create New Account.” You can also refer to the article in the Facebook Help Center. It is important that you initially act as a private individual:

  • Use a private email address

  • Add a few friends on Facebook

  • Like a few posts or pages

Let Facebook get to know you as a “regular person” first, and continue with these instructions after about one week.

Facebook continuously checks in the background whether new accounts belong to real people. If you perform too many actions too quickly (such as creating a Business Portfolio and your company pages), your access may be restricted.

We also recommend setting up two-factor authentication, which we explain in this article.


How to create a Business Portfolio

The Business Portfolio, also known as a business account, can be found in the Meta Business Suite and provides you with a central place to manage all business activities across Meta platforms.

  1. Log in with your Facebook credentials (“Log in with Facebook”).

    • If you have not yet created a Business Portfolio and are not assigned to any pages, you can proceed directly to step 5.

  2. In the top left corner under “Meta Business Suite,” click on your account and open the overview by clicking on the triangle.

  3. Here you will find a button to “Create Business Portfolio.”

    • Please note that each Facebook account can create a maximum of two Business Portfolios, even if you leave them afterward. You can be invited to existing portfolios by other administrators at any time.

  4. Give your Business Portfolio a name.

    • We recommend using your company name including the legal form (e.g., axregio3 GmbH) so that you can later easily distinguish it from your company page (e.g., axregio).

  5. Enter your contact information.

    • Here you can enter your name again in case you are currently using a nickname on your private Facebook profile. Your data will not be published and is used for better organization within the Business Portfolio. The same applies to the email address. Since you use your private email address to log in, Meta gives you the option here to store an alternative address for all business-related matters.

You can now use your Business Portfolio to manage all business-related matters on Meta. We also recommend adding your company information in the business settings. To do so, follow these steps:

  • In the top left corner below "Meta Business Suite", click on your account and open the overview by clicking on the triangle.

  • Click on the gear icon next to your Business Portfolio to access the business settings.

  • Click on the "Business Info" section. Here, you can upload a profile picture for your Business Portfolio and edit your company details.


How to create a Facebook page

A Facebook page for your company should be created through the Business Portfolio. It allows you to present your company on Facebook and publish posts so that users can interact with them and you can run campaigns for your business.

  1. Log in with your Facebook credentials (“Log in with Facebook”).

  2. In the top left corner under “Meta Business Suite,” click on your account and open the overview by clicking on the triangle.

  3. Click on the gear icon next to your Business Portfolio to access the business settings.

  4. Find the “Accounts” section and click on the overview for “Pages” below it.

  5. In the top right corner, you will find a button labeled “+ Add.” Click on it and then select “Create New Facebook Page.”

  6. Enter the page name and choose a category. You can also optionally add a biography. All information can be edited later.

  7. In the next step, check the box at the bottom of the form and then click “Create Page.”

You will now be able to see the page in the business settings. When you click on it, you can select the “View on Facebook” button on the right side of the screen. This will take you to your Facebook page, where you can adjust all further settings. We recommend the following steps:

  • Set a cover photo (e.g., a view of your showroom) and your logo as the profile picture.

  • Add your company’s address.

  • Provide the email address and phone number where your company can be reached.

  • Add your company’s website. You can also include your legal notice and privacy policy.

  • Enter your current opening hours.


How to create an Instagram profile

An Instagram profile for your company should be created through the Business Portfolio. It allows you to present your business on Instagram and publish posts so that users can interact with them and you can run campaigns for your company.

  1. Log in with your Facebook credentials (“Log in with Facebook”).

  2. In the top left corner under “Meta Business Suite,” click on your account and open the overview by clicking on the triangle.

  3. Click on the gear icon next to your Business Portfolio to access the business settings.

  4. Find the “Accounts” section and click on the overview for “Pages” below it. It is important that you do not click on Instagram accounts — this way, you can create an Instagram profile that is correctly linked directly to your company’s Facebook page and avoid having to connect it later.

  5. Select your company page. On the right side of the screen, click on “Connect assets” and choose “Instagram account.”

  6. Then click the button “Create new Instagram profile.”

  7. Enter the email address you want to use to log in to the Instagram profile (also on your phone or tablet). We recommend using your company’s main email address (e.g., [email protected]). You will need access to this inbox.

  8. Enter a page name. This will later be the “title” of your page. It will automatically be filled in with the name of your Facebook page.

  9. Enter a username. Please note that spaces are not allowed. This is the name that will appear after the @ symbol.

  10. Create a password that you will later use to log in to the Instagram profile (also on your phone or tablet).

  11. Enter your date of birth. This will not be displayed publicly on your profile. Please use your own date of birth, even if you are creating an account for your company.

  12. Check the box at the bottom of the form and then click “Next.”

  13. Confirm your email address using the code sent to you.

  14. Select “Business” to convert your Instagram profile into a professional account.

  15. Enter your company’s category. You can choose to display it on your profile or change it later.

Your Instagram profile is now directly linked to your company’s Facebook page and can be seen in the business settings within the Business Portfolio. When you click on it in the “Instagram Accounts” section, you can select the “View on Instagram” button on the right side of the screen. This will take you to your Instagram page, where you can adjust all further settings. We recommend the following steps:

  • Set your logo as the profile picture.

  • Add your company website to your bio.

You may need to log in again in the “Instagram Accounts” section of the business settings to access all features. Use the Instagram login credentials you created earlier.


You did it and successfully set up your company’s social media presence.
